Elon Musk is one of the richest men in the world. This is much deserved as he’s created serious value for the world we live in. From Paypal to SpaceX to Tesla, Musk has had a huge impact on so many lives. He also recently purchased Twitter to fix the company. Now, breaking Disney news, Musk is looking into his next venture and rumors are swirling he might be buying Disney World.

Musk recently stepped down as the Twitter CEO and is now looking for a new way to spend his money. According to someone close to the matter, Disney World is at the top of Elon Musk’s list of purchases. He isn’t looking to purchase the entire Disney company, just Disney World.
Will Elon Musk Buy Disney World?
While nothing is yet confirmed, some rumors just started swirling about this potential acquisition by Musk. According to a source familiar with it, Musk sees a huge opportunity to improve Disney World and bring them out of financial trouble. This is exactly what Musk did with Twitter. He saw weakness, bought the company, made significant improvements, and turned the corner for a struggling company. Musk thinks that he can replicate this success with Disney World, especially given its current state.
Recently, Disney Parks have been under a lot of pressure. Financially, they are struggling. This seems odd because each year the parks are busier than the last. However, unfortunately, the parks are not helping Disney’s financials very much. Also, Disney World continues to be in the news for a variety of negative reasons. First off it was the National Guard blocking the entrances to Disney World. Then Disney announced all American Flags would be replaced with pride flags here. And most recently, Bud Light becoming the official beer of Disney World.
Disney World is clearly in disarray, which is exactly why Musk is looking to buy the theme park in Bay Lake, Florida. In fact, he knows Disney is struggling financially, and buying the park is an appeal to the dissatisfied shareholders. Apparently turning off the shower water at Disney hotels isn’t enough. If Musk can make a good enough offer on Disney World, Disney might just sell it to him.
What Happens if Elon Musk Buys Disney World?
Elon Musk buying Disney World would be a very interesting deal structure. We reached out to a world-class attorney who specializes in business deals. They mentioned this deal could go in many directions. However, the most likely is Disney would license their intellectual property to Musk, allowing him to use it in the parks for a specified royalty fee, on top of buying the parks in the first place. This allows the rides to remain Disney-themed and keep it named Disney World. Otherwise, Musk would need to retheme everything in the parks so it’s generic.
The other benefit to licensing their IP is Disney will continue to get a quarterly check from Musk based on sales at Disney World. In a sense, it would be connected to The Walt Disney Company, however, run by an independent operator. Also, our lawyer mentioned Disney and Musk would need to structure the employment aspect. Either Musk would retain all employees that work on or at Disney World or clean house and hire all new people. The latter is far more challenging. Our attorney mentioned the first route is the most likely.
There are a thousand other details that need to be figured out in a contract like this. However, Disney’s intellectual property and employees are the two biggest factors. While it’s not clear if Elon Musk will buy out Disney World from Disney, it’s certainly possible and not something Elon Musk would shy away from. He’s done this before with Twitter and isn’t afraid to do it again.
