Animal Kingdom is widely known as a half-day park at Disney World. In fact, the lack of interest in the park led to speculation that it would close permanently, which we reported on here. Animal Kingdom is in dire need of something new, something fun, and something interesting. Well, it’s getting just that with the announcement that Club Penguin Land is coming to Animal Kingdom.
Animal Kingdom is slowly starting to become an interesting park. In fact, we recently announced here that a Cars ride would be replacing DINOSAUR. Also, Disney is close to hatching a real dinosaur, which you can read about here. Clearly, Disney is doing a lot to save this half-day park from extinction. We expect Club Penguin Land to also help generate more interest in Animal Kindom.
Club Penguin Returning
It was just announced that Club Penguin Land is coming to Disney World. This will be an entire area of the park dedicated to Club Penguin. It will be full of rides, restaurants, and shops, all theme around the massively popular online game. Club Penguin originally launched in 2005 and immediately became a smash hit. Millions of people played it every day. However, it shut down in 2017, but the game still lives on unofficially here.
Despite Club Penguin being down for six years, Disney is using it as the inspiration for a new land inside Animal Kingdom. In fact, many are speculating that Disney will relaunch Club Penguin online around the time of the opening of the new Club Penguin land. This would be a huge synergy for Disney. The land opening and online game launching at the same time would benefit each other, making an even bigger statement.
The saddest part about Club Penguin Land is it’s set to replace Kilimanjaro Safaris. However, as you may recall, that ride is struggling. It’s expensive to maintain and a lot of land. The return on investment is low, which is why Disney is adding the hunting experience to that ride, which we reported here. The closure of Kilimanjaro Safari for Club Penguin Land has many people sad, but they are excited about the new area.
Club Penguin Land at Animal Kingdom
Now is the exciting part, what will Club Penguin Land at Animal Kingdom look like? It will resemble the map from the game. In fact, guests can visit the ski hill, plaza, town center, iceberg, and more. Will you be able to tip the iceberg? Maybe. Some of the restaurants will include the famous Pizza Parlor, where you can build your own pizza, and the coffee shop, which will be a Starbucks. Both restaurants will resemble the ones in the online game.
From an attractions standpoint, so far we only know about two of the rides. Downhill Sled Race, guests will load into ride vehicles that look like saucer sleds. They will “race” other riders down a giant ski hill, going over bumps and jumps. Mine Cart Surfer will have guests flying down mine tracks, going over jumps, around sharp curves, and down steep hills. In fact, it will have a similar intensity to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Of course, there will also be a few shops. This is where people can buy Club Penguin merchandise. Disney will sell many of the items that you could buy in the game to style your penguin. This includes hats, jackets, shirts, pants, and more. Of course, you will also be able to adopt your own puffle. The entire Club Penguin Land will be close to the size of the Magic Kingdom. It will look completely snowcovered and be fully immersive into the world of Club Penguin.
