Have you ever dreamt of building a roller coaster in your backyard? The answer is probably yes, who hasn’t? Especially after Phineas and Ferb’s famous television premiere where they built their own roller coaster. Having a roller coaster in your backyard is certainly a luxury and not easy to do, but with Disney’s new backyard roller coaster kit, you are in luck.

What Is Disney’s Build Your Own Roller Coaster Kit?

Disney is now selling kits to build a roller coaster in your backyard on shopdisney.com. Currently, there are only two kits for sale, the Matterhorn and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Disney intends on offering more kits over time, including Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Both of these kits are modeled after the real attractions in Disneyland and Disney World respectively. These roller coasters will have a max drop height of 30 feet and the total track length will be around 200 feet. Of course, they aren’t theme park size, but they are a nice size for your backyard.

These Disney backyard roller coaster kits have everything you need to build your own Disney roller coaster at home. They include pieces for the track, ride cars, speakers for the ride music, and props to make it feel just like the real ride. For example, the Matterhorn comes with a yeti animatronic to make it more realistic. For more photos of an already-constructed Disney at-home roller coaster, check out Magictecture.com.

This at-home roller coaster kit also comes with instructions to guide you through the building process. Much like a lego kit, you don’t even need to be an engineer or Imagineer to build this roller coaster. Disney has a great step-by-step guide on how to build the ride. However, you will be required to have basic construction skills like using a hammer and a drill. Much like building anything, there is an entry-level of skills required in order to successfully build one of these roller coasters at your house.

How Much Does Disney’s At Home Coaster Kit Cost?

It will cost only $500 to build your own Disney roller coaster in your yard. When considering all of the pieces required to build one of these roller coasters, this is a fantastic deal. In fact, that’s the cost of a 2-day ticket to Disney World. Instead of paying for that, you can just go to the Disney park in your backyard with your new roller coasters.

However, we also want to add, building a roller coaster in your backyard will increase your insurance. If you buy one of these kits, you will be required to purchase special insurance through Disney’s website. This is to protect you and Disney from any liability in the chance that you build your roller coaster wrong.

Ultimately, it’s unlikely someone will get seriously injured like what happened on Space Mountain. You can read our story on that here. However, accidents can happen at Disney World and in your backyard. Because of this, Disney will require insurance to be purchased if you want to build one of their roller coasters in your backyard.
