The Tower of Terror is one of the most iconic attractions. It stands at a towering 199 feet tall at the end of Sunset Boulevard. Disney does an amazing job setting the mood for the ride with the mysterious queue and 1930s jazz music. However, the much-loved attraction is closing and will be replaced with Dr. Doofenshmirtz Drop-Inator.
It’s a sad day for many with the announcement that the Tower of Terror is closing permanently to be replaced. The ride has been in the news a lot recently. First, we saw the bungee jump experience coming to the outside of the ride. Then was the announcement Disney would remove the seat belts from the ride. Of course, most recently the announcement that it would become a normal elevator instead of a thrill ride. Well, none of those stories are relevant anymore with the huge announcement of the Tower of Terror closing.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz Drop-Inator Coming to Disney World
The Dr. Doofenshmirtz Drop-Inator is based on the show Phineas and Ferb. The show’s first preview was in August 2007, following the High School Musical 2 premier. It then ran for 4 seasons on Disney Channel. Dr. Doofenshmirtz is the villain of the show, always creating “-inators” to solve some problem he is having. He will be the focus of the attraction, however, all of the main characters will be a part of the ride.
The main plot of the new Dr. Doofenshmirtz Drop-Inator ride is Dr. Doofenshmirtz has a plan to turn off gravity. You join forces with Perry the Platypus, Phineas, Ferb, Isabella, Buford, and Baljeet to thwart his plans. The new Phineas and Ferb ride will use the same mechanics as the Tower of Terror, just a retheme of the ride. This means the ride will still shoot guests up in the air and drop them at random. This is because the gravity is being turned on and off constantly by Doofenshmirtz, with Phineas and the gang stopping him.
It makes sense that this ride is replacing the Tower of Terror. We recently reported here that High School Musical will be the new theme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. This means the Sunset Boulevard area is turning into more of a Disney Channel area. While it’s not been announced, we speculate this area of the park will undergo a retheme to be completely themed around Disney Channel.
New Phineas and Ferb Overlay Coming to Tower of Terror
Everything in the queue and pre-show will revolve around Phineas and Ferb. In fact, you will see pieces of many of their previous inventions as you walk through the queue. For example, pieces from their robot treehouses as well as remains from their backyard roller coaster. It will truly be an immersive experience for Phineas and Ferb fans. The queue will have a very cartoonish and playful feel to it.
However, many Disney fans are saddened that the Tower of Terror is closing and will be replaced. The good news is the ride will remain the same, just a different theme. In fact, this is similar to Guardians of The Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT at Disneyland. However, people love the eeriness of the Tower of Terror and don’t want it to be changed. But the change makes sense given how outdated The Twilight Zone is.
Not long ago a Phineas and Ferb reboot was announced. This makes a Phineas and Ferb ride at Disney World far more appealing. It’s not yet clear when the Dr. Doofenshmirtz Drop-Inator will open, however, we expect it to be only a year or two since it’s just a retheme. In fact, we think it might have its grand opening aligned with the Phineas and Ferb reboot. It’s possible that the reboot has an episode on the Drop-Inator, but we don’t know yet.
