Disney World has always been known for its magical experience, but now it’s taking things to new heights by adding helicopters to its transportation options. Starting this summer, guests will have the opportunity to fly from the parks to the hotels in Helicopters, the newest addition to Disney World transportation.
Getting around Disney World isn’t always easy. Currently, your only options are buses, boats, and the monorail. Also, there are oftentimes long lines and crowded vehicles. This is because there are so many people on Disney World property trying to get to different locations. However, the transportation fees Disney World is adding may decrease the number of people who take Disney transportation. Also, adding the upside-down loop to the monorail may deter people as well. Either way, transportation at Disney World is difficult, but the addition of helicopters will make things far easier but at a cost.
Fly Around Disney World in Helicopters
This will be the first time Disney offers helicopter transportation at Disney World. This new service is a faster and more convenient option for guests. The helicopters will transport guests between Disney’s various parks and resorts. Each of Disney’s four theme parks will have a helicopter pad added near the entrance of the park. Deluxe resorts will also have helicopter pads as well. However, this new transportation option will not fly to value or moderate Disney resorts.
The cost of the helicopter ride will be $100 per person, per ride. While this may seem steep, it’s a faster and more efficient way to travel around Disney World. Guests will no longer have to deal with crowded buses or long lines for the monorail. Instead, they can hop on a helicopter and be at their destination in a matter of minutes. If you need to book a hotel for one of these deluxe resorts, our friends here at DVC Rental Store have amazing discounts on confirmed DVC bookings, sometimes up to 65% off, so make sure you check them out!
The helicopters used for this service are six-passenger Bell 407s. They are equipped with air conditioning, leather seats, and large windows for optimal views. Not only is it a fast ride, but you also get a great view of the Disney World parks. The pilots are all FAA-certified and have extensive experience flying in the area. Safety is a top priority for Disney, so guests can feel confident that they are in good hands.
Booking a Helicopter at Disney World
In order to book a helicopter at Disney World, you must do it through the My Disney Experience app. This is similar to the Minnie Vans and the VIPee bathroom experience for example. Guests can either book their helicopter ahead of time to reserve one or book it at the helicopter pad. However, the only way to guarantee a ride is to book it ahead of time.
Disney is adding a full fleet of 50 helicopters to transport guests around property. Despite adding so many, we expect them to often be booked out, due to the convenience they provide. Because of this, it’s advised that guests book their helicopter rides ahead of time to secure a trip. Per usual, Disney makes it extremely easy to book ahead of time, however, this locks guests into leaving at a specific time due to the cancellation policy.
Because of the high expected demand for Disney World Helicopters, Disney will not refund any cancellations within 24 hours of the flight. This is much like Disney dining reservation cancellations. However, if Disney needs to cancel your flight due to inclement weather, they will offer you a full refund. So if you are looking for a faster and easier way around Disney World with a view, these helicopter rides may be for you.
