Mickey Mouse continues to be the face of the Walt Disney Company. This is despite the news we broke here that he will no longer be the official mascot. In fact, Mickey Mouse is becoming more prominent than ever. This is especially true with the news that Mickey Mouse will be a main character in The Mandalorian Season 4.
The Mandalorian is one of the most popular TV series of all time. In fact, it’s the number 2 most streamed show on Disney+. This makes sense of course. Disney continues to maximize the Star Wars franchise with numerous movies, shows, and of course, the new 5th theme park, which we broke the news on here. It’s this theme park that is leading Disney to add Mickey Mouse to The Mandalorian as a main character. We like to call him, Mandalorian Mickey.
Mickey Mouse Joins The Mandalorian
There are so far few details out on The Mandalorian season 4. We know the season will happen for sure as reported here. However, an internal source just confirmed to us that Mickey Mouse will become a main character in The Mandalorian season 4. While details on how he will work within the show are still scarce, we know he plays an important role in the show. According to our source, “Mickey Mouse will make his debut in season 4, episode 1 of The Mandalorian. He will play a critical role in the plot points of the episodes. We expect Mickey to be a fan favorite when he makes his debut in the show.”
As you can see, there is very little information given as to what role he will play in the series and how he will interact with the other characters. This is of course to reduce spoilers on the plot points, especially as the new season is still mostly in the works. However, our guess is Mickey Mouse will not be animated in the series. While this was never stated, we don’t expect Disney and Lucas to pull a Who Framed Roger Rabbit on us with The Mandalorian Season 4.
Other details we don’t know are whether or not Mickey’s friends will be in episodes as well. Typically when Mickey Mouse is in something, so are Goofy, Donald, Pluto, and Minnie. There was no reference to any of his gang, however, that doesn’t mean they won’t be in the episode. We asked our source if his friends will star in any of The Mandalorian episodes as well and they declined to comment. That decline to comment likely means the decision hasn’t yet been made.
Why is Disney Adding Mickey Mouse to The Mandalorian?
The crossover of Mickey Mouse with Star Wars seems odd. Of course, we have seen it for Star Wars weekend, but never has Mickey Mouse been in a Star Wars movie or show. However, the reason makes sense. Disney wants to more seamlessly integrate intellectual property across their company. Disney is a conglomerate of far too many companies and they are always looking for ways to weave different properties into each other. We’ve seen this most recently with Coco taking over a scene in The Haunted Mansion for example as we reported here.
However, the bigger story here is due to the 5th theme park we just announced here. The theme park is completely based on Star Wars. However, Disney wants Mickey to be in this new Star Wars theme park. But Disney needs a reason to incorporate him into that park. They can’t just drop Mickey Mouse into a Star Wars theme park without a reason or story. Because of this, they are laying the ground for that story with The Mandalorian.
Mickey Mouse becoming an integral part of The Mandalorian paves the way for him to be a character in the new Star Wars theme park. Disney can build up a story of him in a Star Wars TV show and when the park opens, he will be a natural fit. This certainly makes sense, but has a lot of Star Wars fans upset over this big change. There is also fear that Mickey will start to take over future Star Wars movies.
