Since its opening in 1982, EPCOT has been one of the most popular Disney World parks. This is due to its innovative blend of education and entertainment. More recently, Disney has announced great changes to EPCOT, like the Star Wars ride coming to Spaceship Earth. In fact, they just announced another thrilling addition to EPCOT, Moana’s Epic Voyage, a new log flume ride like Splash Mountain.
The infusion of Moana’s adventurous spirit is expected to elevate the park’s appeal. Currently, EPCOT is a fairly stale park. Sure, 18-year-olds may be able to drink there soon, but in terms of attractions, there has been a lack of innovation. In fact, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is the newest ride. However, it’s just a copy of an already existing ride in Disneyland Paris. Moana’s Epic Voyage will bring much-needed new life to EPCOT Future World.
Moana’s Epic Voyage Coming Soon
EPCOT is constantly changing to remain current and is set to transform again as the Moana water ride sets sail. This new log flume ride will replace The Seas Pavilion, which is strategically positioned next to Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. This is the new Moana-themed water experience, set to open soon. In fact, the Journey of Water is currently open for early previews but has mixed reviews. Luckily, the new Moana’s water ride will increase interest in this area of the park and EPCOT overall.
The location of this new attraction makes a lot of sense. While the Seas Pavilion was great, the death of Crush from Finding Nemo, was a big hit to the pavilion. This impacts both Turtle Talk with Crush as well as The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Moana’s Epic Voyage is expected to be a thrilling ride and will certainly have more appeal than the Seas Pavilion, which is one of the most expensive parts of Disney World to maintain. This is of course due to the massive aquarium, which is the second largest aquarium in the US and sixth in the world. Unfortunately, this aquarium draws few visitors, which is also part of the reason for its closure.
Inspired by the concept of exploration that runs through the heart of EPCOT, Moana’s Epic Voyage will immerse visitors in the world of Moana. This attraction aims to fuse the wonders of the ocean with cutting-edge ride technology. Guests will embark on a journey that combines storytelling, music, memorable characters, and a thrilling ride.
A Thrilling Moana Log Flume Ride
Moana’s Epic Voyage will be similar to Splash Mountain. Guests will experience drops up to 100 feet over cascading waterfalls, swift twists and turns, and a few surprises inspired by the movie’s most memorable scenes. As you step aboard the attraction, you’ll be transported into Moana’s world. Sail through lush landscapes, venture into mystical caves, and even face off against the legendary lava monster, Te Ka. In fact, according to an internal source, this will be one of the most innovative and detailed Disney rides ever made.
The ride will follow Moana’s quest to restore the heart of Te Fiti, creating excitement and suspense for the riders. And let’s not forget about the enchanting melodies that swept audiences off their feet – the ride will feature an orchestration of the film’s iconic songs to accompany each twist and turn. This includes “How Far I’ll Go”, “You’re Welcome”, “Shiny”, and more. This mix of thrilling water-based elements, beloved characters, and iconic music is poised to create an experience that resonates with park-goers of all ages.
The Moana water ride is an exciting addition to EPCOT. By replacing The Seas pavilion and weaving Moana’s narrative into its fabric, Disney is ensuring that the park continues to capture the essence of exploration and imagination. There is no set date for the opening of Moana’s Epic Voyage, however, experts are expecting it to open in 2028.
