There are two main reasons Disney is making this change. The first reason is to prevent anyone from getting offended.

If at any time a skipper goes slightly off script, they might tell a joke that is offensive to someone on the ride. Disney has done a lot to reduce this; however, there are still times when guests are offended by certain jokes.

Using a prerecording guarantees avoiding any potentially offensive jokes, even if Trader Sam was one of the best parts of the ride.

Second, it is to save money. At any given time, there are about 40 skippers giving tours on the Jungle Cruise. This is going on all day long, which means Disney is paying tens of thousands of dollars each day in labor just to operate the ride.

The updated version of the Jungle Cruise will be very similar to Living With The Land. That ride also had cast members on the boat instead of a recording, but they have since been removed.

Disney will also use underwater jets to drive the Jungle Cruise boats instead of the cast members, like Living With The Land.

Overall, people are very upset about this. They say what makes the Jungle Cruise so fun is that it is a different ride every time with different personalities. Losing that loses the entire ride.
