Target is one of the most popular retail chains in the US, if not the most popular. It isn’t uncommon for consumers to spend a full afternoon at Target while they sip on an iced latte from Starbucks. Well that experience is making its way into the Disney Parks and will be the only Target on Disney World Property.
Just announced, a Target and Starbucks combo is coming to Tomorrowland between Carousel of Progress and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. This area is currently backstage, but Disney has decided the space would be more valuable as a Target.
Here are some details about this new addition. Target will sell exclusively Disney products. Many of the products can be found in stores across property. There will be a few Target X Disney collaborations however that will be sold exclusively at this store.
You may be wondering why they chose Tomorrowland to build the Target. Disney has announced that this will not be like any other Target in the US. This will be themed to fit in Tomorrowland and will look futuristic on the interior and exterior. On top of that, it will be a futuristic experience. Guests will not need to check their items out, they will automatically be billed to their My Disney Experience app using bluetooth to their phone and/or MagicBand. This will be very similar to the cashierless Amazon stores we have seen in the past few years.
The Starbucks will also have a Tomorrowland theme to it. Both the design of the Starbucks and operations will be futuristic. Guests will place an order on a screen. They will then be able to watch their drink be made in front of them. The difference from a normal Starbucks is in Tomorrowland, robots will be making your beverage. You will watch your cup go down a conveyor line with robotic arms adding in ingredients to make your drink.
On top of the innovative drink process you will also be able to order special Tomorrowland drinks that are available exclusively at this Tomorrowland Starbucks location. Some of the specialty drinks include The Sonny Eclipse, which is “a latte from another galaxy.” The Sonny Eclipse is “a cafe latte with 2 pumps toffee nut and 2 pumps white mocha, with a fun surprise.” We don’t know what the surprise is, but anticipate it is similar to Bespin Fizz at Oga’s Cantina. We are also very excited for The Stroll With Rover, which is a direct take from the Halloween scene in Carousel of Progress. The Stroll with Rover is “the perfect fall drink, served year round. It is a pumpkin spice latte, with the addition of 2 pumps of caramel and a dash of salt to add to the sweetness of the drink and fall.” We expect this to be one of the most popular drinks at this store and across property given the already high demand for a normal PSL.
The opening date for this Starbucks/Target combination is yet to be released, but we expect it to take a year or so to construct given the complexity of the project.
