New Coco Ride Coming to EPCOT Mexico Pavilion

New EPCOT Coco Ride Coming in soon

Disney/Pixar’s Coco took the heart of many when it was released. It’s a cute film with a nice storyline, beautiful colors, an amazing music score, and has great underlying lessons. Because of that, Coco has done over $800 million in the box office, which is exactly why it is getting an attraction at EPCOT.

The new Coco ride will be called Coco: Seize Your Moment. Seize your moment is one of the motivational messages and lessons from the movie. The name also fits with the theme of the attraction and the journey that guests will go on during the ride.

The Coco attraction will be a retheme of the not so popular Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros. The Gran Fiesta Tour opened in 2007 and is located in the Mexico Pavilion in World Showcase. Oftentimes the attraction is a walk on, there is no wait. If there ever is a wait time, it’s always under 15 minutes, unless it’s raining and other rides are closed. Needless to say, Gran Fiesta Tour will not be missed by many.

According to Disney, “In Coco: Seize Your Moment, guests will join the aspiring young musician Miguel as he embarks on an extraordinary journey to the magical land of his ancestors. There, the charming trickster Héctor becomes an unexpected friend who helps Miguel uncover the mysteries behind his family’s stories and traditions. Guests will experience a vibrant tale of family, fun, and adventure”

While this new attraction was just confirmed officially today, we know quite a few details beyond Disney’s initial description. This is thanks to Parkineer for originally publishing this story back in April, which you can see here.

As mentioned above, it will essentially be a boat ride through the movie. The ride will follow the same track as Gran Fiesta Tour, but be rethemed. Guests will start in Santa Cecilia and enter the Land of The Dead through Ernesto De La Cruz’s Tomb, how cool! Guests will travel through the City of the Dead and through the cenote pit. It will end with a grand finale where Miguel and Héctor sing Un Poco Loco with fireworks above head.

Just based on the initial artwork from Parkineer, we know this attraction will be special. It captures the beautiful colors from Coco so well and tells an amazing story. We also know it will be tied together with a great soundtrack featuring songs like Un Poco Loco as mentioned above, Remember Me, and other fan favorite songs from the movie.

Although it won’t be a thrill ride, we expect it to generate long wait times. Coco is a top Disney movie. We recently reported on Coco taking over the ballroom scene in Haunted Mansion ,here. When we broke the news, people were ecstatic for Coco to be added to the attraction, yet mad because Haunted Mansion is a classic. We also know guests love the addition of Coco to Mickey’s Philharmagic. Gran Fiesta Tour closing for good and being rethemed to Coco is a great move by Disney imagineering.

There is no official opening date for the new Coco attraction, however, we anticipate it will not open until 2024 or 2025. What do you think of the new Coco ride coming to EPCOT? Let us know in the comments below if you are excited for it or sad that the classic Gran Fiesta Tour is closing.
