Owning a piece of Disney World is a goal and aspiration for many. In fact, to fill that need, many people go to eBay or visit online auctions like Heritage Auctions. These are places where fans can legally acquire Disney World props and used park items. However, if you want to illegally acquire Disney World props, you can steal them, like the man who was pulled over and arrested for stealing a Test Track car.

Test Track is one of the most popular attractions across Walt Disney World property. In fact, it’s the most popular ride at EPCOT. There are many huge fans of the ride. But apparently, someone was a big enough fan, they decided they wanted their own Test Track car to drive around and keep at home. However, he was arrested in this process, but we will break down how he stole the car and what he had to say about it.

How to Steal a Test Track Car

Test Track cars are the most complex ride vehicles at Disney World, which is why the ride breaks down so often. Test Track cars actually have 22 wheels on them, not 4 as it appears. Most of the wheels are under the car and out of view, these keep the cars on the track, which makes it extremely difficult to steal a car. You can’t just find a gap in the track when no one is looking and drive it off. The cars are securely attached. However, the cars are able to come off the track and be driven freely.

Behind Test Track is a garage where they do maintenance on the cars. The cars come off the track and are pushed into the garage. According to police reports, the man who stole the Test Track car broke into the garage at 1 AM. The man is a mechanic with extensive knowledge of cars. When he broke into the garage, he modified the Test Track car to drive it on the open roads. This includes adding a V6 engine and a steering wheel, which the cars don’t have. He also installed temporary headlights so he wouldn’t get pulled over for driving without lights in the early hours of the morning.

This man apparently is extremely skilled in automotive repairs. To steal a non-drivable car without an engine and make it drivable in only an hour is extremely impressive. Also, the fact that he was able to break into the backstage of EPCOT to achieve this is a feat in itself. One might think he had inside help to pull off this heist. However, that doesn’t appear to be the case, at least at the moment.

The Arrest for Stealing a Test Track Car

The police report said the man worked on the car for about an hour, leaving the Test Track maintenance garage around 2 AM. And he was later pulled over and arrested on I-4 in the Test Track car at 2:47 AM. The report said the man was pulled over for failure to signal. It turns out he didn’t add turn signals to the car. Upon being pulled over, the police realized the car wasn’t street-legal and was stolen from Test Track. He was promptly arrested and taken to jail.

When asked why he stole the car, the man responded “I thought it would be cool to own a test track car.” He later went on to say, “I don’t want to wait until 2026 to buy a drivable Test Track car.” He is of course referring to our article here, where Disney is launching replica ride cars that people can actually drive. We have no doubt these cars will be amazing, however, they won’t be on the market for a few more years and this man couldn’t wait.

This man will go down in history as a dumb criminal. It’s impressive (and wrong of course) that he was able to steal a car from Test Track and drive it. However, being pulled over for not signaling makes for such a funny ending to this story. Apparently, this dumb criminal didn’t think everything through. According to the report, the man is facing multiple charges from theft to failure to signal. He is expected to be in prison for up to 15 years.

Florida is doomed anyway, with or without Disney.
