Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is the replacement for Splash Mountain. This new ride was first announced in 2020. It took Disney until 2022 to finally officially announce the Splash Mountain closure. However, the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure retheme is officially canceled, instead, Disney is building a Qdoba in its place.
Splash Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure can’t stay out of the news. There are constantly new stories around these rides. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean is being rethemed to Splash Mountain as we reported here. Also, the breaking news is that Splash Mountain is moving to Universal Studios as we reported here. Now, this ride location is back in the news with the cancellation of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the proposed replacement for Splash Mountain.
Why is Disney Canceling Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?
A while ago, we reported here that the Florida government was suing Disney over the Splash Mountain retheme. However, surprisingly, this isn’t why Disney is canceling the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure retheme. It comes down to guest experience and providing Disney fans with what they want and what they need in the parks. Apparently, another ride based on a newer Disney IP wasn’t the best move.
After extreme pushback and frustration because of the Splash Mountain retheme, Disney has officially canceled it. However, that doesn’t mean they are going back to Splash Mountain. That is moving to Universal Studios. Instead, Disney is turning the land occupied by Tiana’s Bayou Adventure into a Qdoba. This is actually a great compromise by Disney and seems to make both the Splash and Tiana lovers happy. It’s truly a win-win.
There is also a financial reason that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is closing. Disney doesn’t want to talk about this, but financially they are struggling. The struggle will continue, especially with Ron Desantis calling the National Guard to block Disney World entrances. Disney is unable to fund the retheme to Splash Mountain, so instead, they are canceling the whole project. They will tear down Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which they barely made progress on, and build a Qdoba.
Qdoba is Coming to The Magic Kingdom
Possibly the most exciting Disney news of the year, a Qdoba is coming to the Magic Kingdom and will replace Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Obviously, it’s still sad because Splash Mountain apparently will never make a return, but at least it’s a Qdoba taking its place. This has almost all Disney fans excited.
Disney decided to replace Tiana’s Bayou Adventure with a Qdoba because it fits best with Frontierland. We all know the New Orleans-themed ride didn’t fit in Frontierland, but Disney doesn’t really care. However, the addition of a Qdoba to Frontierland gives us a glimmer of hope that theming still matters. The Qdoba restaurant will be wild west themed to fit perfectly in Frontierland.
In fact, this is the second restaurant chain to make its way into Frontierland. Not long ago we reported here on the Taco Bell coming to Magic Kingdom Frontierland. Guests were thrilled by this. We know guests will be even more thrilled to have a Qdoba tucked in the back corner of the Magic Kingdom. Imagine scarfing down a Qdoba burrito as you watch Big Thunder Mountain Railroad trains fly down the track. That is true Disney magic.
