BREAKING: Disney World Officially Removes Drinking Age

Guest that blow higher than 0.02 will need to take a Minnie Van home

When people think of Disney, they think of rides, families, and fun. However, there is another side to Disney that is huge business for the company and well-loved by guests and that is drinking. In fact, it’s so popular that Disney announced a Drinking Around the World Competition. Now, drinking is going to be a lot more popular with the breaking news that Disney World officially removes the drinking age in their theme parks.

Imagine you’re a high schooler and you want to go to Disney World to drink and party. There is one problem, the law. The legal drinking age in the United States is 21. Typically, teenagers take the illegal route and get a fake ID in order to drink when they aren’t 21. However, now anyone at any age can drink at Disney World and it’s creating some controversy.

Disney World Removes Drinking Age for Everyone

Just over a year ago, we reported here that Disney World was attempting to lower the drinking age on property to 18. The general idea behind this is to generate additional money for the Walt Disney Company. In fact, we know Disney is struggling to make money, so this is more relevant than ever. Disney was attempting to get a resort exemption in order to sell alcohol to guests 18 and older. However, the state of Florida was challenging this and asked Disney to create a system that would ensure anyone from 18-21 who has been drinking does not get behind the wheel and operate a car.

Well, Disney was just granted resort exception status and now anyone can drink at Disney World. The initial fight was for guests 18 and older to be able to drink. However, Disney was able to convince Florida to allow anyone and everyone at Disney World to drink, regardless of age. Disney created a plan that convinced the Florida Government to allow anyone to legally drink at Disney. It’s too bad Bud Light is now the official beer of Disney World.

However, this decision is very controversial. There are a lot of concerns. One concern is the guest experience. It’s expected that there will be a massive increase of people intoxicated in Disney parks. There is a fear that this will have a huge negative impact on the families who want to enjoy a family park. Though the biggest concern is people driving drunk, however, Disney has solved that issue.

How Will Disney Keep The Public Safe?

Disney has an ingenious system to prevent people under 21 from getting drunk and driving home. They will require guests under 21 to wear a special MagicBand. Disney designed this MagicBand with special technology so it can only be removed by Disney cast members at the park exit. However, in order to get the MagicBand removed, you must have a blood alcohol level below 0.02, which is very low.

Essentially, before you leave the Disney park, alcohol needs to be mostly out of your system so you can have this special MagicBand taken off your wrist. Otherwise, it will be stuck on you. Disney has a proprietary technology that allows only them to take it off. This special MagicBand will function much like an ankle monitor, however, it will be on your wrist.

If someone is unable to blow less than a 0.02, Disney will take the guest home in their Minnie Van. However, Disney will significantly raise the prices for those who need a Minnie Van to get home. According to an official spokesperson, guests who need the Minnie Van service should expect prices to be double or triple what an Uber or Lift would cost to get home. Upon dropping the guest off, the Disney Minnie Van driver will remove the special MagicBand and send you on your way.
