Disney World is widely known as a place for families. Typically when people think of families, they think of parents and kids. However, nowadays, pets are widely considered part of the family. In fact, people aren’t having kids anymore and instead own pets. Disney is promoting this child-free lifestyle with the announcement that all pets are now welcome at Disney World.

The family unit is the core consumer for Disney. A lot of what Disney does is geared towards the family, for example, implementing the one-child policy, which we reported on here. However, Disney has made a lot of decisions recently that seem to move away from the family. We saw this with the announcement of Disney removing the drinking age here. Well, they are appealing to a family unit again by allowing guests to buy Disney World tickets for their pets.

Disney World Tickets for Pets

It was just announced that people can now buy Disney World tickets for their pets any day of the year. This announcement has so many people excited, but others not so much, but we will get to that. However, this announcement doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering just a few months ago Disney was testing Dog-friendly rides, which we reported on here. This was the initial exploration of letting pets inside Disney World parks.

Now, for $200, guests can buy a Disney World ticket for their furry friend. “Animals? What? Animals? What Kind? Oh, the usual, dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs, RATS.” That’s right, Disney World is now allowing any and all pets inside their theme parks. Yes, horses are included in the list of pets now allowed inside Disney World. However, if an animal is larger than a human, it will cost an extra $300 to bring them in. Disney doesn’t want to discriminate against any animals, but they want to discourage people from bringing in huge pets like cows, sheep, and horses.

The question now is what do I do with my pet inside Disney World? Well, certain pets will be allowed on certain rides. For example, dogs will be able to go on rides like it’s a small world and the Jungle Cruise, but not Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. However, Horses will only be able to go on attractions like the Hall of Presidents and Carousel of Progress due to their size. However, as expected there are a lot of varying opinions on this decision.

Pets Welcome at Disney World Controversy

Disney World allowing all pets inside their theme parks is certainly controversial. Of course, many people are thrilled by this decision. They love their pets and consider them family. This allows their entire family to visit Disney World and enjoy the trip together. As we noted earlier, Disney World is a family place, so it makes sense they welcome all members, even the furry ones. However, not everyone loves this decision by Disney.

There are many people against Disney World allowing all pets inside their theme parks. First off, the most obvious argument against this is around allergies. A lot of people are allergic to a variety of pets, especially cats and dogs. Those folks have no interest in going on Disney rides directly after a dog was in their seat. This could trigger allergic reactions and cause health problems. On the other hand, some people are worried about the logistics of this decision.

As many know, animals are prone to going to the bathroom where they shouldn’t. There is a big concern that animals will go to the bathroom in the middle of the park. Others are also concerned that the animals may get out of hand. Guests who buy pet tickets at Disney World aren’t required to undergo any pet training. It’s possible that a horse gets out of hand or a dog attacks another guest. This potentially creates some serious issues inside the parks. However, Disney notes that if anyone’s pets get out of hand, that guest is subject to removal from Disney World and may be banned for life.
