Expedition Everest Will Be Rethemed to a Treasure Planet ride. It’s been officially announced that Expedition Everest will close at the end of 2025 to make way for this new ride.

It will be named Treasure Planet: Solar Soar and will be based on the 2002 sci-fi film Treasure Planet. This new ride will take guests on a high-speed journey across the Etherium in search of legendary interstellar treasure.

While the existing ride track will remain, the Himalayan setting will be transformed into an alien world filled with glowing nebulae, crashed pirate ships, and futuristic sky-sailing vessels. The infamous yeti will be replaced by a rogue robotic guardian left behind by space pirates.

The good news is, unlike the Yeti, this character will actually work. In fact, part of the reason Disney is permanently closing Expedition Everest is because the Yeti remains broken, despite many attempts to fix it. There are also complaints that Expedition Everest is culturally problematic.

Treasure Planet: Solar Soar will also have holographic star maps and animatronic characters from the film, including Jim Hawkins and Morph.

This retheme makes sense as Treasure Planet is widely considered one of the most underrated Disney movies of all time. In fact, Hunter Williams brought this issue to light in his most recent YouTube video here

Overall, many people are excited about this as Treasure Planet has a huge cult following. However, other people are very upset. Expedition Everest is another classic Disney ride that is getting an IP retheme, like Tower of Terror to Stitch, which we reported on here.
