Disney announces “The Lion Queen”, the much-anticipated sequel to The Lion King. When Simba dies, it’s up to Nala to take over the throne as queen. However, there is a lot of conflict amongst the animals.

Many don’t believe that a woman can reign over the jungle. Nala sets out to prove them wrong and show her capabilities. According to an internal source, “‘The Lion Queen’ is a feminist masterpiece. We tackle the many issues of the patriarchy and tear down gender stereotypes. This movie will truly highlight how strong Nala is as a metaphor to empower women. The movie will even include the hit remake, I Just Can’t Wait to be Queen.”

However, many people are expecting this to be a failure. Disney continues to rely on sequels, which continue to fail. We know in Frozen 3, Elsa marries a woman, in Moana 2, Moana is transgender, and in Toy Story 5, Andy dies.

Disney is really going out on a limb with these new movies. Their hope is that the lens of inclusion and girl power will lead this movie to the top of the charts, much like The Lion King when it came out. Only time will tell if The Lion Queen is successful for Disney.
