EPCOT is heavily focused on world cultures. In fact, the walk around World Showcase is 1.2 miles and features 11 different countries. There is so much you can learn and do while walking around World Showcase. However, soon you will be able to run around World Showcase. That’s right, Disney just announced a running of the bulls experience coming to EPCOT.
Disney continues to find ways to improve EPCOT. We recently saw that with the new surfing experience coming to World Showcase Lagoon. Also with the waterslide coming to EPCOT as well. Of course, we can’t forget about Spaceship Earth becoming a Star Wars ride. Disney wants to make EPCOT more appealing to all guests and that’s exactly what the running of the bulls experience will do.
Details on EPCOT Running of The Bulls
Each day during the week of July 7-14th, Disney will have a running of the bulls experience in World Showcase. However, instead of bulls, guests will be chased by Disney characters in costume. Mickey and his friends will be unleashed to chase after guests in World Showcase. They are doing this to lean more into the cultures of countries around the world. Typically they do this through food, drinks, and rides.
The running of the characters at EPCOT will take place an hour before the park opens to normal guests. Those interested will need to sign up for the event through Disney’s website to secure a spot. The good news is, if you want to run with the characters, it’s free! However, you will need a valid ticket to enter EPCOT that day. Also, there is a 5,000-person limit per day, but we don’t expect spots to fill up every day.
Is This Safe?
This is the least safe activity you can participate in at Disney World. However, we did see a man lose his hands on Space Mountain. We also recently saw a serious injury from an ECV scooter. Disney World isn’t always the safest place on the planet, but they do a good job to mitigate injuries. However, here, there is no guarantee. In this case, being chased and trampled by Disney characters can certainly be dangerous and result in injury.
For those interested in running with the characters in EPCOT, there is a risk of injury. The experience is meant to emulate the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Disney wants to give guests an authentic experience. Because of that, guests may be injured either by being trampled by other guests or by Disney characters chasing them. Because of this, Disney will require every participant to sign a waiver prior to running.
While it seems questionable for Disney to offer their own version of running of the bulls in EPCOT, there is value. Disney wants to provide their guests with unique experiences while visiting their parks. Emulating the running of the bulls is a great way to do that. At least this is safer than being chased by real bulls in Spain.
