Record-Breaking 8 Hour Wait Time For Disney World Ride

Disney experiences record setting wait times on New Year's Eve

The Disney World theme parks boast some of the longest wait times around Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Many people think it’s a great idea to take a family trip while on Christmas break. Fun fact, it’s not. In fact, that’s objectively the worst time to go to Disney World. The parks are overcrowded, which led to a record-breaking wait time of 8 hours for the Tower of Terror.

Despite Disney continuing to do controversial things like drug testing all guests when they enter the parks, which we reported on here, Disney World continues to be busy. In fact, the parks keep getting busier. No matter how many people say they are boycotting Disney, they continue to see an increase in crowds, yet they aren’t adding new attractions to increase capacity. It’s this problem that led to an 8-hour wait time for the Tower of Terror.

Record-Breaking Disney World Wait Time

An 8-hour or 480-minute wait, is the new record for the longest wait time at Disney World. This happened around noon on New Year’s Eve, which is oftentimes the busiest day at Disney World. The combination of people being on vacation that week with extended hours to celebrate the new year is the perfect storm. All Disney World parks hit capacity during the day, which led to some of the longest wait times ever recorded at Disney World.

The fact that the Tower of Terror now holds the record for the longest wait time for any theme park ride is shocking to most people. Tower of Terror has been around since 1994. There is nothing new about the ride, which is normally what drives long wait times, especially around the holidays. Maybe people are getting their last rides in before Disney removes the seatbelts, which we reported on here.

What caused the Tower of Terror line to be so long? No one truly knows. However, at the same time, six other rides at Hollywood Studios had wait times of over 100 minutes. It goes to show how busy the park was at that time. The Tower of Terror just had the perfect storm of people interested in the ride, forcing the wait time to be 480 minutes, the longest-ever recorded wait time at Disney World.

8 Hour Wait For a Disney Ride?

Many people are stunned that someone would wait in a line that is 8 hours long. That is an entire workday. Others are wondering how people went to the bathroom when in line for 8 hours. However, as you may remember, we reported here on how Disney is requiring all guests to wear diapers. So that’s not an issue. However, we talked to some people who were in line for 8 hours. They said they could smell the diapers of other guests and it was not pleasant.

We interviewed other people in line to ask why they would spend 8 hours waiting for the Tower of Terror. One guest said they did it to make history. They wanted to be a part of the record-setting day for the ride by waiting in the longest-ever recorded wait time at Disney World. When we asked if the wait was worth it, they said absolutely not. However, after being in line for four hours already, they said it was too late to turn back.

Another group of guests saw it as a challenge, much like people do on YouTube and TikTok. They wanted to test their patience and perseverance. According to these guests, by the time they got on the ride, they were drained from standing in line for 8 hours. However, they made lifelong friendships with other people in line around them as they all suffered together.

Don’t use the term Disney World, when you’re talking about any Disney theme park anywhere in the world where Disneyland is the more common nomenclature. But when U.S. readers are your audience, it’s safe to say Disney World for the one in Orlando and Disneyland for the one in L.A. What was confusing was your article heading says Disney World, but you’re showing a map of what I assume is Disneyland–two different places.

No, you are incorrect. The map does in fact show Disney World. The reason “Disney World” was used in the article is because the ride is AT Disney World.
